We've bought a digger!
With thanks to Jay Bee Plant
Work at Oldminster Sidings can step up a gear now that the VoBR has its very own digger. Careful consideration by the Board determined it would be more cost-effective to own a digger rather than repeatedly hiring one. It would also guarantee its availability.
The machine is a New Holland loader backhoe, similar to those made by JCB, Caterpillar, John Deere, etc. Regular Oldminster volunteer Andy Hart (who works at Jay Bee Plant Sales) mentioned our search for a digger to his boss Tim Blythe, who has been generously supportive.
Jay Bee sells, hires, buys and maintains a variety of plant. Mindful of our budget, they sourced the New Holland machine for us – second-hand but clean and well-maintained. Although it's older than the plant they usually deal with, Jay Bee also provided a free pre-sales inspection, collection and service – saving us around £3K.
Tim Blythe is very interested in our objectives and has also kindly loaned us a powered roller to dress the hardcore top surface at Oldminster – once again saving us expense and time. Our grateful thanks to Tim Blythe and his team at Jay Bee Plant Sales, and we look forward to seeing our digger in action at Oldminster.
